Opportunities for Female Players

Hockey Yukon is pleased to provide development opportunities for female athletes of all ages. These opportunities range from “come try hockey” to high performance hockey training. Below you will find a summary the three levels open to female players from across Yukon. These programs run in conjunction with community minor hockey programs (players can participate in both).

Level 1:  Junior Girls Ice (Tykes, Novice, 1st Year Atoms and other beginners)

  • Once a week ice time on the weekend.
  • Goals are to introduce, develop skills and have fun.
  • Open to female players in minor hockey (all communities) and girls that just want to try or ‘dabble’ in hockey.

Level 2:  Intermediate Girls Program

  • Once a week ice time on the weekend for Atom, Pee Wee and Bantams not in Level 3.
  • Goals are to develop skills and introduce more competitive girls hockey (exhibition games, tournament teams).
  • Open to girls in minor hockey from all Yukon communities

Level 3:  Female Mustangs

  • Select team (mainly Bantam/Midget aged) that plays Whitehorse Minor Hockey Bantam House League and participates in tournaments.
  • Players from this group may become eligible for teams participating in the Canada and Arctic Winter Games.
