**BC Hockey is introducing U9 ‘Trained’ Official option. This option will allow a new official to join the officiating program at a much-reduced registration fee ($25.00 + GST). Officials that wish to enter the program under this U9 ‘trained’ status will not receive full certification but will be trained to officiate U9 cross-ice games. Furthermore, 11-year-olds will be permitted to participate in the U9 trained program, to allow for a more gradual transition to Level 1 in a future season. U9 officials must complete the Hockey Canada  Officiating 1/2 online course  prior to registration and the clinic is approximately 60 minutes.

Officials who ref 15 games will be refunded their course registration fees

The following steps outline the process for officials to register for the 2020-21 season

Note: All returning officials that do not require a Criminal Record Check (CRC) (17 years or younger as of December 31 of the current calendar year) or officials with a currently valid CRC can proceed directly to step 3.

STEP 1: All NEW officials MUST complete the Hockey University (HU) - Officiating 1/2 online module.  Once Hockey University is complete (including the post-module survey), any official that will be 18 years or older as of December 31 of the current calendar year MUST complete ‘Step 2’ by submitting for a Criminal Record Check. All new officials 17 year or under as of December 31 that have completed ‘Step 1’ may proceed to ‘Step 3.’

STEP 2: Any official without a valid CRC that is 18 years of age or older as of December 31 of the current calendar year must complete a CRC.  A valid CRC is required prior to registering for the current season.  The link below in the ‘Step 3’ bar provides the process for submitting for a new CRC, at no charge. Please see the video below regarding access to your e-hockey account to check the status of your most recent CRC. CRCs are valid for three (3) seasons.

STEP 3: NEW for the 2020-21 season, ALL OFFICIALS are required to complete (including the post-module survey) the Hockey University (HU) online ‘Planning a Safe Return to Hockey’ prior to registering for your 2020-21 clinic.

STEP 4: With all of the applicable aspects of steps 1-3 fulfilled, officials may proceed to registering for their 2020-21 clinic. It is advised to consult with your local RIC regarding whether or not an in-person clinic is being offered by your association. If your association is not offering an in-person clinic this season, BC Hockey will be offering several online certification opportunities. Please note, officials WILL NOT be permitted to officiate this season until they have completed their in-person or online clinic via ‘Step 4.’
